What Are Your Favorite Senior Citizens Gifts?

I just don't believe that senior citizens gifts can be that hard to figure out. But for some reason we seem to have knick-knacks written on our forehead. Like we've been waiting all year for that! And what about that excuse,"I've been so busy". Hey, give a gift card. You can get them at Wal-Mart, the grocery, and just about anywhere your busy schedule takes you. But please don't say that busy stuff to us. It only makes us feel insignificant. Just because we got a little older, doesn't mean we're that naive.

Shop GiftTree for gifts for all your occasions.

Do you ever get the feeling that when you receive a gift from a family member or friend, that their heart just wasn't in it? And I wonder if they knew that we felt that way, if they might try a little bit harder.

My sister and I have had this discussion on many occasions. We are sometimes accused of "trying too hard". But I wonder if people really think about what a gift means and represents. It's not that hard to take a little notice as to what your receiver is interested in and go from there.

You ever come across something and think, Oh, I know someone that collects these, or loves those, or is looking for something like this? Well, there you go. Gifts should have real meaning. They should produce a lasting memory.

Such as;

Check out Fringe and a Smile for a nice gift to the one that enjoys sewing.

In Less Than 17 Hours, You Can Cut 3½ Yards of Fabric into 75 Pieces and Sew 25 Blocks Together, Creating 498 Inches of Fringe and a Smile!

Also known as a "Rag Quilt" this is a great gift idea for a senior to make for a very memorable keepsake.

"Rag Quilt"s are easy, fun, and you can make one in a weekend – from start to finish using this complete step-by-step Guide.

I know I would enjoy any "how to" quick guides as a gift.

Or,

The place to go if you sew! I love the Dreamy Cuddle Baby Blanket Kits, Quick Yo Yo Makers, and Amy Butler Crafts & Notions. They make it hard to decide which winter project to start. I guess you'll have to click on the pillows and pick one out for yourself.Free Shipping on orders $35+

But do be sure to see the hilarious fabrics that Loralie Designs has to offer. At least for a good laugh!

Loralie Designs

I could spend all afternoon here. CUTE! CUTE! CUTE! Couldn't you just imagine a "rag quilt" made of some of these artful swatches?

My ten year old grandson came in one day with a bag for me. He is always "thoughtful". Anyway, in the bag was a troll doll he found at a yard sale. We had seen these on a movie or something and I had told him how I had them as a kid. It now lives in my china hutch and he checks on it often. This became a new collection for us and we add to it as we find them.

I guess my point is that if a ten year old can figure out how to surprise me and make me feel important, why should it be so hard for anyone else. I don't know about you, but I would rather not get anything if it is an inconvenience to the gift giver.

Senior citizens gifts are not just what we need. What we need is to feel like we matter and are special to our loved ones. I know that if you ask, sometimes we just say we don't need anything. But guess what? We're lying.

We want to be thought of and to see our giver beam with pride for the thought they put into our gift. Don't mistake this with price. As we get older, money becomes a need and not a value of love or affection. The simplest things, (like our home made pies and cookies were to our loved ones), are just as thrilling to us.

Jewelry is always a good idea for nice senior citizens gifts. I think the pop beads and costume are part of our past and are on their way back. Cologne is OK too, but please make it a new up dated kind. Just because we are old men and ladies, doesn't mean we want to smell like them. Something you would wear yourself would be a practical senior citizens gift.
And what senior do you know that doesn't just go gaga for
I think a Nintendo DS is a great idea. I have one and I keep it here for the grand kids but I play the Mario mini games with them and I have the brain teasers for me.

I don't know too many senior citizens that don't like word puzzles. It helps keep the mind sharp. Even though it might be practical, it is a good way to keep up with a little modern technology. I take my DS to appointments I have, for something to do while I wait. Oil changes, doctor office, hospital, or any place I end up having to wait a while.

What if you took a great photo of your grand child with grandpa and had it put on canvas? Bet you would get all kinds of raves from the family. Or what about a vintage picture of you and your pet? Well check out CanvasonDemand.com-Your Prized Photograph Transformed Into an Amazing Canvas Work-Of-Art!.

What senior wouldn't love that as a warm special unique gift.

Or what about some nice 25% off all canvas and framed artwork for Contemporary fine art for your home and office.

I have enjoyed any, and all, plants that I've gotten for the summer months. Something already planted in a pot is always nice. A hanging basket is a good idea, too. I often get some type of plant for Mothers Day and it is a favorite of mine. Just set it on the porch and water it occasionally.

Bird houses and birdseed are always a welcome for me, as well as birdbaths. And who doesn't get a real flutter themselves when a humming bird comes to your feeder? But one of my favorites is wind chimes. I have a lot of them.

And we sure can't forget our senior golfers. I can't imagine how many retirees do not do this. But if we don't play the game, we all know or have someone who does.

My father lived and breathed the sport. So for all those golfers you might need a gift for, check out . They have anything and everything golf. From gift baskets, certificates, memorabilia, desk gifts, fun and gag gifts, party supplies, pocket items, kids golf , and even luxury golf gifts.

From metallic golf balls, Fortune Cookies for Golfers, to Golf Monopoly Signature Holes, there is something here that your golfer does not have, YET!

BagsBuy Logo Hey, did I mention PURSES? What senior lady do you know that wouldn't adore a nice designer purse? But good luck trying to decide which one is the perfect one for that perfect gal. See some beautiful ones at
Lotions and make up are another nice senior citizens gift. Updated, newer products are the answer, here. Because we tend to be more frugal as we get older, we tend to hang onto some things that we should probably pitch.

Make up is definitely one. Old make up can retain and grow some pretty (no pun intended) nasty germs. I think all women should take a second look at how old some of our make up is. Same with lotions, only more so. They tend to go bad in a shorter amount of time. And a lot of them are probably old senior citizens gifts!

If you don't believe me, dig deep under your bathroom sink or deep in that cabinet. You'll find an old bottle, I'm sure. Now, smell it! No one, our age, wants to be wasteful yet sometimes we have a real problem letting go of items that we think we will use, some day. LET IT GO!

Music! Need I say more? Have you ever met a senior that didn't love one type of music or another? And guess what else? Anyone who knows you at all knows exactly what your favorite kinds are. What could be better senior citizens gifts than music?

There are so many options. A new MP3 player downloaded with all your favorites. A new under the counter CD player or new radio. The list is endless and the prices are too.
What is your favorite senior citizens gifts? Let me know, and we can share them with others.
